WILLIAMSTOWN TOWNSHIP POLICE

Meridian Township Officers swearing In as Williamstown Township Officers

Effective January 1, 2011, all residents of Williamstown Township began receiving police services from the Meridian Township Police Department, 24 hours per day. Meridian Township patrol cars will be in the Township a minimum of 80 hours per week plus any additional hours required to answer all emergency or non-emergency calls from any individual in Williamstown Township. This includes all residents and anyone else temporarily in the Township.

Police Contract with Meridian Township

The Township solicited and received five proposals to provide police services commencing on January 1, 2011. They were reviewed by the Township Board established police committee. At the regular Township Board meeting on December 7, 2010 the committee provided a report on the five proposals and recommend negotiating a contract with Meridian Township. Two of the items mentioned supporting the recommendation were; lowest cost to the Township and the proximity of the police department. The Board approved the recommendation.

Funding Police Services

On November 2, 2010 a Special Assessment for Police Services was passed by the voters in Williamstown Township. Following a November 16 public hearing, the Williamstown Township Board established the whole Township as the Special Assessment District as passed by the voters in the November 2nd ballot issue. The Special Assessment Roll was also established. A copy of the Special Assessment Roll detailing the assessment to each parcel is available at the Township offices.
