Local HS Students Building Williamston's Family Tree
On the first Friday of every month, downtown Williamston businesses hold an event called “Discover First Fridays in Williamston.” Each month has a different theme. The next event date is Friday, May 2 with a theme of “Williamston's Family Tree - Williamston History.”
Mitch Lutzke is a history teacher at Williamston High School and Board Member of the Williamston Depot Museum. He teaches a class on Michigan History Research and Development. Three high school students, Zach Nagy (junior), Dan Nix (senior), and John Person (senior) have been working on a Williamston history project for all of the downtown buildings.
These students have gathered historical information on approx 54 buildings in downtown Williamston! This information will be on display that evening, Friday, May 2, and will continue for the entire weekend. This information will include a photo of the building and a listing of all the historical information that they have gathered.
They need our help! Come to downtown Williamston that evening or anytime that weekend and add your historical input on what you remember about the building - what used to be there, dates, owners, your memories, etc. Your information will help make a more complete documentation of each building. Help Build Williamston's Family Tree!
What a wonderful way to learn about Williamston history, while enjoying downtown Williamston. You and your family can have dinner, see a movie, get a cup of coffee and a cookie, shop, relax, and enjoy!
