MISSION STATEMENT
of the Williamstown Township Historical Committee is to:
Seek out and promote historical sites in Williamstown Township; create a document that identifies the historical sites.
Collect, organize , catalogue as appropriate, and preserve historical documents, photographs and artifacts.
Conduct oral histories with long term residents.
Collaborate and cooperate with other historical organizations in the region.

Branch School under renovation
HISTORICAL COMMITTEE UPDATE

February 2011

Branch School hosting Artist on May 6th and 7th

The historical committee has completed the restoration of the Branch School. The school will beopen as part of the Township Fine Art Sale and Studio Tour on May 6th, from 4:00pm to 9:00 pm andMay 7th, from 9:00am to 5:00 pm. Tickets for the event are $5.00 each and can be purchased fromany participating artist or at the Township Hall during business hours. This would be a wonderfulopportunity to view the work of talented artists in the area and the historical restoration of the school.

Open House

In late September/early October the committee is planning an Open House at the Branch School alongwith a tour of several historic homes and sites in the township. The dates will be announced on thetownship website and in the Williamston Enterprise.

Wish List

The historical committee is still looking for donations to complete the interior of the school.

Items on the wish list include:

  • Tunable upright piano in good condition
  • Historic lunch buckets
  • School books in good condition, prior to 1920
  • Recitation bench
  • Appropriate school artifacts
  • Front desks without attached seats and rear seats without attached desks (these arerare)

The historical committee is continuing research into the historical sites of the Township and OralHistories of the area and, in particular, the Branch School. Any information, photos or artifacts youwould be interested in sharing would be helpful.
