NATURAL BEAUTY ROADS
| Michigan Public Act 451 of 1994 authorizes the Natural Beauty Roads program which identifies and preserves in a natural, essentially undisturbed condition, certain county-local roads. County road commissions are empowered to dedicate these roads (not collector or primary roads) as Natural Beauty Roads. At least twenty-five landowners in the Township, not only residents of the road, may apply by petition to the Ingham County Road Commission for such designation. To qualify as a natural beauty road, the road must have outstanding natural features along its borders, including native trees and other native vegetation such as shrubs and wildflowers, and open areas with scenic or natural vistas which set the road apart as being unique and distinct. Within six months of receiving petitions from concerned township residents, the Road Commission must hold a public hearing to consider the designation, and announce its decision within thirty days of the hearing. We would like to work with you to designate a road. If interested in working on this project, Contact Clerk Cindy Davis for a sample petition and more information. |
